Gun conviction could bring Keene man 15-year sentence

According to the federal release he bought a .38 caliber revolver and ammunition from a confidential informant for $1,700.

Christian Torruellas, 33, is now awaiting sentencing in federal court after admitting he possessed a firearm while under supervised release from an earlier conviction. He entered the guilty plea Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Concord, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

The court set Oct. 14 as the date for sentencing. Prosecutors said the offense carries a possible prison term of up to 15 years, a fine of as much as $250,000, and as many as three years of supervised release. The Justice Department also said Torruellas had two previous convictions for unlawful possession.

Investigators said the case grew out of an Oct. 16, 2024, operation at Torruellas’ home in Keene. According to the federal release, he bought a .38 caliber revolver and ammunition from a confidential informant for $1,700. Authorities said he also displayed other guns during the encounter, including a .22 pistol and ammunition that he allegedly offered to sell. After leaving the house, the informant returned with $2,300 provided by law enforcement and used that money to complete the transaction.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives handled the investigation.

Torruellas is also facing separate allegations in Cheshire County Superior Court in a pending human trafficking case. Court records say he has been charged with human trafficking and kidnapping in connection with accusations that he held a woman against her will and abused her at a home in Keene.
