Monadnock Family Services is facing at least $250,000 in damage after a fire last week affected its building at 40 Avon St. in Keene, according to CEO Mindy Asbury. She said that amount reflects only the immediate mitigation work, and that the final cost will probably be higher once additional repairs are finished. Some of the expense is expected to be offset by insurance coverage, and demolition work is scheduled to start next week.
The heaviest damage was concentrated on the south side of the second floor, where smoke and water affected a section used for children’s therapy and office space. Asbury said that part of the building was not being used when the fire broke out. In the meantime, the agency has shifted appointments to the other side of the building, which serves adults.
To make the space work more efficiently, Monadnock Family Services has adjusted its schedule so adults are seen during the day and in early morning hours, while children’s appointments are being held in the afternoon.
