Traffic Disruptions Expected as Tree Removal Closes Maple Avenue in Keene

Maple Avenue in Keene has been closed for a week as forestry crews tackle the removal of red pine trees affected by red pine scale in Dinsmoor Woods, resulting in expected detours and delays for motorists. The closure commenced on Monday, restricting access between Court Street and Pako Avenue from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Vehicles are being rerouted through Old Walpole Road, Sesame Street, Melody Lane, and Dale Drive before reconnecting at Pako Avenue for the first part of the week.

From Tuesday to Friday, the closure will adjust to encompass Maple Avenue between Court Street and Melody Lane, requiring a shorter detour route. City officials have indicated that the aim of the removal operation is to eliminate most of the infested trees in order to safeguard the health of the adjacent forest. After the tree removal, the area will allow for natural regeneration before any potential replanting.

Residents and travelers are advised to prepare for possible delays and heed all signage related to road closures, as an increase in truck traffic is anticipated during the operations. The timing of the project coincides with the school vacation, which means that school bus routes will not be affected. Additionally, Cheshire Medical Center has confirmed that its access from Maple Avenue at the West Campus will not experience disruption. The tree removal project is slated to conclude by Friday.
