7-Year-Old Boy Found Safe After Search in Roxbury Woods

The boy was found at about 5:25 p.m. by a K9 unit from New England Canine Search and Rescue, roughly 1,500 feet behind the residence.

A large search involving multiple agencies ended safely Saturday when a 7-year-old boy with special needs was found in the woods behind his family’s home in Roxbury, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department.

Officials said conservation officers were alerted at about 3:20 p.m. after the child had not been seen since around 12:30 p.m. at the family’s rural property, which is bordered by a substantial stretch of forest.

Teams from local, state and regional agencies fanned out across the area to look for him. The boy was found at about 5:25 p.m. by a K9 unit from New England Canine Search and Rescue, roughly 1,500 feet behind the residence.

After the child was located, a conservation officer carried him back to the house. A Keene Fire Department ambulance crew checked him as a precaution before he was returned to his parents.

Assisting in the search were New Hampshire State Police Troop C, a State Police K9 unit, the Roxbury Fire Department, Roxbury Police Department, the Upper Valley Wilderness Response Team, New England Canine Search and Rescue, the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, the Keene Fire Department and the New Hampshire Department of Emergency Services Communications, officials said.
