Amtrak Train Strikes and Kills Individual in Claremont

Preliminary reports indicate that the person was walking along the New England Central Railroad tracks at the time of the accident.

An incident involving an Amtrak train resulted in the death of a person in Claremont, New Hampshire, on Tuesday evening. The collision occurred at approximately 6 p.m. as the Vermonter train, traveling from Washington, D.C., to St. Albans, Vermont, passed through the area. 

Preliminary reports indicate that the person was walking along the New England Central Railroad tracks at the time of the accident. The train had a scheduled stop in Claremont around 5:46 p.m., but it became involved in the tragedy shortly before its arrival. Authorities from Amtrak stated that none of the 53 individuals on board, including passengers and crew members, sustained injuries during the event. Following the incident, the train managed to continue its journey, albeit three and a half hours late.

The Claremont Police Department has launched an investigation in collaboration with Amtrak authorities to piece together the events leading up to the incident. Capt. Justin Laffin from the police department noted that they are also working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to ascertain the cause of death. Details regarding the identity of the deceased have not yet been disclosed as authorities continue their inquiries.
