Brookline Pilot Injured in Small Plane Crash at Jaffrey Airport

A 75-year-old man from Brookline was hospitalized following a small plane accident in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, on Friday. The incident took place shortly before noon when the pilot attempted to take off in a single-engine Sonex aircraft that subsequently lost power and crashed into a field near Silver Ranch Airpark.

Emergency personnel responded promptly to reports of the crash, arriving to find the pilot trapped in the wreckage. Identified as Ronald Jones, he sustained significant facial injuries and reported experiencing back pain. Despite his condition, he was conscious and able to communicate during rescue efforts.

Jones was extracted from the aircraft and stabilized at the scene before being airlifted by UMass Life Flight to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

Initial investigations suggest that the crash was caused by a mechanical failure related to the aircraft's propeller, which stopped functioning shortly after the plane took off. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are currently conducting investigations into the incident.

This crash marks the second occurrence at Jaffrey Airport in just over two weeks, following another incident on May 21 that resulted in injuries to two individuals when their kit plane went down on the runway.

Emergency responders included the Jaffrey Fire Department, Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, Peterborough Fire and Rescue, and Peterborough Ambulance, all of whom played essential roles in the rescue operation.
