Former N.H. House Leader Fred Doucette Dies

Doucette was known in Salem for years of public service as a firefighter and former paramedic.

Fred Doucette, a former New Hampshire state representative and recent FEMA regional administrator, has died, the New Hampshire House Republican Caucus said in a post announcing the news.

Doucette, a Salem Republican, spent six terms in the New Hampshire House, where he represented parts of Rockingham County from 2014 until he stepped down in March 2025. During his time in the Legislature, he held leadership roles including Assistant Leader, Deputy Leader and Speaker Pro Tempore.

Before and alongside his political work, Doucette was known in Salem for years of public service as a firefighter and former paramedic. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

His involvement in Republican presidential politics included serving as New Hampshire co-chairman for Donald Trump’s campaigns in 2016 and 2020. More recently, he took on a senior adviser role and served as New Hampshire co-chairman for Vivek Ramaswamy’s 2024 campaign.

After leaving the House in 2025, Doucette was appointed administrator of FEMA Region 1, which is responsible for federal emergency-management coordination across all six New England states and 10 federally recognized Tribal Nations.

The caucus said it was mourning his death. No cause of death was released, and funeral details were not immediately available.
