Man sustains leg injury while descending Gap Mountain

A local resident from Rindge experienced a significant leg injury on Sunday afternoon during a hike on Gap Mountain.

A local resident from Rindge experienced a significant leg injury on Sunday afternoon during a hike on Gap Mountain, according to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. Brett Gonzales, aged 42, was hiking with an experienced partner when the incident occurred as they were making their way down from the summit.

While navigating some slippery rocks, Gonzales fell and was unable to continue walking without assistance. His companion promptly contacted emergency services at approximately 3:45 p.m. to report the incident.

The response team comprised Troy's fire, ambulance, and police personnel, as well as the Fitzwilliam fire department and conservation officers from New Hampshire Fish and Game. Emergency responders provided on-site care, including the application of a splint to stabilize his leg. After receiving assistance, Gonzales managed to walk approximately half a mile down the trail to reach a UTV waiting in Fitzwilliam. He was then transported to the conclusion of Gap Mountain Road around 6 p.m. before being taken to a hospital by a private vehicle.
