Maplewood Nursing Home Places Among Top Facilities in Newsweek Ranking

Maplewood’s placement on the Newsweek list offers one more measure of its standing.

Maplewood Nursing Home in Westmoreland has received national notice after Newsweek included it in America’s Best Nursing Homes 2027, putting the Cheshire County facility near the top of the state and region.

The county-run home was ranked third out of 74 nursing homes in New Hampshire and 20th among 622 facilities in the Northeast. Nationwide, Newsweek reviewed 14,693 nursing homes and gave recognition to 1,325, meaning fewer than 10% of the facilities evaluated made the list.

The ranking was based on federal quality information from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, along with other measurements. Newsweek compared homes within each state and also grouped them by size so similar facilities were judged against one another.

Maplewood Administrator Kathryn Kindopp said the honor reflects the work of the people behind the facility, including employees and local officials who help support it. She said the home’s primary mission is serving residents and their families, while also providing a place where staff can do meaningful work.

Located in Westmoreland, Maplewood offers long-term skilled nursing care and rehabilitation services for Cheshire County residents. Because the home is operated by the county, families are able to keep loved ones close to their community and support networks.

The facility’s staff includes registered nurses, licensed practical nurses and licensed nursing assistants, along with employees in therapy, food service, housekeeping, maintenance, activities, social services and administration. Together, they handle both medical care and day-to-day assistance for residents.

Cheshire County Administrator Christopher Coates said the result reflects the dedication of workers who provide care at all hours, including holidays and during severe weather. He said maintaining strong standards is a constant responsibility shared by the whole team.

The recognition also arrives during a period when nursing homes across the country continue to face staffing pressures, making the role of employees even more important for residents who depend on them.
