Market Basket has not said what led to the outage.
Checkout lanes at a number of Market Basket stores were interrupted for a short period Wednesday, based on reports that surfaced online.
Social media posts began appearing around 1 p.m., with customers describing issues at stores in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Around the same time, downdetector.com recorded a noticeable jump in complaints tied to Market Basket.
At the Hooksett location, one shopper said the backup at the registers looked unusually heavy while the system was down.
Store employees were reporting by 1:30 p.m. that normal service had returned. The company later said on X that the problem had been fixed and described it as a temporary technical issue affecting some registers.
Market Basket has not said what led to the outage.
