A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday as a 20-year-old man from Lancaster, Massachusetts, lost his life while hiking Mount Monadnock. The distress call was made around 4 p.m. when other hikers discovered Luth approximately 0.75 miles from the Monadnock State Park headquarters on Poole Road. Responders quickly began CPR as the individual's condition declined. Despite the swift actions of bystanders and the subsequent arrival of conservation officers and local fire departments, Luth was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Luth’s medical emergency is ongoing. Multiple emergency response teams were involved, including the Jaffrey, Rindge, Peterborough, and Keene fire departments.

Authorities indicated that Luth was somewhat prepared for the hike although he was alone at the time of the incident. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will further examine the situation to determine the exact cause of death.
