Mount Washington Summit Sees First Measurable Snowfall of the Season

The observatory also noted thick rime ice, wind chills dropping below zero, and gusts topping 110 mph.

While many lower-elevation areas are still showing fall color, winter conditions have already begun to take hold at the region’s highest point.

Mount Washington Observatory reported that the summit picked up 0.7 inches of measurable snow on Monday, marking the first such snowfall of the season.

The weather there was far more severe than a light dusting alone. The observatory also noted thick rime ice, wind chills dropping below zero, and gusts topping 110 mph.
