Claremont officials say a case tied to Mayor Dale Girard and his wife has been turned over to New Hampshire State Police after an incident last week near the couple’s home. Local police said the transfer was made to avoid a conflict of interest because of Girard’s role in city government.
Girard, who has been mayor since 2021 and is also seeking another term as a state representative, said the matter began when he and his wife were driving home and she had a brief verbal exchange with a person on an electric bicycle in the road. He said Alynn Girard then stopped the car and got out to speak with the rider.
According to Girard, he left the vehicle only to return his wife to the car, and the couple then continued home without any further trouble. He said there was no physical confrontation and that he did not argue with the bicyclist.
State police have declined to discuss the matter and would not say whether an investigation is active. Claremont police have also not provided additional details.
Girard and his wife own and operate Golden Cross Ambulance, which serves Claremont.
