Former Green Mountain College campus may see new use as Christian college

The campus shut down in 2020 and was purchased that same year by Raj Bhakta, the founder of WhistlePig.

The former Green Mountain College site in Poultney could be headed for another chapter after a Florida-based evangelical pastor said he has bought the property and intends to open a Christian school there under the name Z University.

Tommie Zito has not publicly identified the campus by its former name, but he referred to Poultney and showed images of the grounds in videos tied to the announcement. In a Facebook post, he said Vermont was his chosen location because he believes New England can shift from being among the least religious parts of the country to the most religious.

The campus shut down in 2020 and was purchased that same year by Raj Bhakta, the founder of WhistlePig. Bhakta previously said he hoped to transfer the property to an organization that would advance the Catholic faith.
