Self-service car wash proposed for 117 West Main St. in Wilmington

The idea was presented to the Review Board on Monday and hopes to move ahead soon.

A new use is being eyed for 117 West Main St., where Bryan and Danielle Dunn want to replace the existing structure with a self-service car wash and a second-floor one-bedroom apartment.

The property sits between The Vermont Bowl Company and Tails on Trails Pet Resort, in the former location of 1a Coffee. The couple presented the idea to the Development Review Board on Monday and said they hope to move ahead soon.

Their plan includes vacuum stations and hours from sun up to sun down. In addition to the main wash area, they are proposing an exterior bay that could accommodate town utility vehicles, plow trucks and other equipment.

Bryan Dunn told the board that engineers are working through Vermont Agency of Transportation permitting needs tied to the driveway, along with sediment trap planning. He said the driveway design is being developed with safety as a priority.

The apartment above the business would be intended for long term rental use, which Bryan Dunn said could help address housing needs in town.

The Development Review Board has 45 days from Monday to issue a ruling. Board member Chrystal Holt thanked the applicants for the presentation and said their responses were helpful.
