Stowe hike ends with rescue call for father and daughter

Rescue officials said the hike took a turn when the father became unable to keep going.

An 11-year-old girl got an up-close look at emergency response after a father-daughter outing on the Sterling Pond Trail in Stowe led to a call for help from Stowe Mountain Rescue.

Lilly, who said she hopes to become a doctor one day, later had the chance to look inside the ambulance after the pair reached the trailhead.

Rescue officials said the hike took a turn when the father became unable to keep going. A passerby assisted before medics arrived, and the man was eventually able to stand and walk down the trail to the waiting ambulance.

Members of the rescue team said Lilly stayed composed throughout the incident and handled the situation with unusual maturity and optimism.
